For Vader's inaugural mission to raze the Jedi Temple, the Emperor provided him with a legion of elite clone troopers. Their distinctive blue-marked armor set them apart from the other ranks.

Piloting the Republic attack gunships were specially trained clone trooper pilots. Their uniforms bore yellow markings and specialized helmets.As the Clone Wars spread and the nature of combat became more specialized, the pilot ranks also grew. Clone starfighter pilots operated the ARC-170 and V-wing fighters that engaged Separatist forces in the depths of space or the skies of scattered worlds. They wore specialized equipment that aided in the piloting of their advanced craft.

Clone Commander Neyo was stationed on Saleucami during the Outer Rim Sieges. While on speeder bike patrol with his Jedi general, Stass Allie, he received Order 66 directly from Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. The command identified Allie as an enemy of the Republic. Carrying out the order, he braked his BARC speeder bike, falling in behind the Jedi. He and a wingman opened fire with their speeder-mounted laser cannons, killing Stass Allie and destroying her speeder bike.

Bacara was a clone commander who worked alongside General Ki-Adi-Mundi against Separatist the droid armies on Mygeeto, an Outer Rim planet controlled by the InterGalactic Banking Clan. Commander Bacara also went by the numerical designation Commander 1138. Though he fought alongside the Jedi in numerous battles, his ultimate loyalty was to the Republic and its Supreme Chancellor.

Clone Commander Cody, also known as unit 2224, was a loyal clone trooper serving the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. Cody was often under the command of General Obi-Wan Kenobi, and served with him and Anakin Skywalker during a nearly disastrous campaign on Cato Neimoidia. Cody was ultimately subservient to the orders of the Republic, and when Order 66 was enacted -- branding Kenobi an enemy of the state -- Cody willingly carried out the command to open fire on his former friend.

Clone troopers were fully encased in hard white armor, their identical faces concealed behind a t-shaped visor. In the first units, color-coded flashes on the armor denoted rank: green trooper sergeants, blue lieutenants, red captains, and yellow commanders. The clones designated for command duty were specifically trained in that capacity. By the end of the war, color-designation came to signify not rank, but individual units, who often became more customized with mission specific gear and armor modifications.
